ABOUT

Jan spins hot-button issues into cute-as-a-button stories!

Where did Jan's passion for writing begin? In Memphis, Tennessee, where she grew up. Her penchant for combining a hopeful message with a creative twist started early on.

Where did Jan's interest in civics take root? At Princeton University, where she majored in public policy, and at Stanford Law School, where she earned a J.D.

When did Jan start writing children's books? Though she enjoyed writing stories as a child and later as a mom, she didn't dive into publishing her stories until 2020. She is now tickled lime to work with talented editors and illustrators, an awesome agent, and other dedicated industry professionals. Meeting fellow creators in the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators is a pleasure too.

Where does Jan write? Usually on her comfy sofa (newly reupholstered because all this writing wore it out). That sofa resides near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she and her husband raised their children and now delight in visits from their grandchildren.

Why do Jan's picture books look so vibrant and adorable? Because her outstanding publishers have paired her with amazing illustrators.

For whom does Jan write? For kids. Also for parents, educators, and caregivers who wish to use her books to start conversations with their young readers about great big social issues.

Why does Jan write? Because she loves dreaming up fun fiction to introduce kids to important topics in the real world. To date, she has tackled voting, vaccines, and book banning — each in a playful way.

What topics will Jan share with kids next? Stay tuned!
